Since July 15, 2010, the database has been opened to a selected group of scholars for their research and feedback.

Since August, 2011, the database has been opened to the public.

Until August 2012, database content was enhanced and edited.
The database now contains 22 analyzed newspapers with some 1400 individual items (Serialized Literature; Theater Review; Essays, editorials, commentaries; Reports), 1500+ selected images, 230 advertisements, and over 1100 persons related to these items.

The website of the follow-up project "Early Chinese Periodicals Online" (ECPO) is officially launched in August 2016. For more information please see http://ecpo.uni-hd.de.
