Dian Ying (The Motion Picture), founded on January 1st, 1925, ceased publication on June 10th, 1925. An entertainment newspaper, focused on the art of film, appears in the beginning every 3 days, every 5 days after May 15th 1925. Its chief-editors were Li Jianhong and Cao Woyin. It was the bulletin of the association “Xiaoxiao Dianying She”, which devoted itself to the introduction of trends of foreign cinema worlds, discussing of almost all aspects of the art of film, criticizing the over-commercialization and westernization of Chinese films. The aim of this newspaper was to promote the development of Chinese films. It has no fixed columns, with half of the space devoted to the disscussion of the problems of cinematic art, 30% to the advertisement, 10% to the literature, 10% to the press review. It regularly informs the newest trends of Chinese cinema world. 80% of the published photos are stage photos of new casted Chinese films. The advertisements are mainly on food, medicine, electric equipments, insurance, foreign firms, as well as films.
